PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
